Dr. Sadia Haider’s co-authored chapter published in first edition textbook

BIRCWH scholar Sadia Haider co-authored a chapter that has been published in the First Edition of a new textbook Contraception for the Medically Challenged Patient.  Her chapter is titled “Medication Interactions for with Contraceptives”.


WISE bringing Girls Who Code to UIC!

Our Women in Science & Engineering program is excited to announce our new partnership with Girls Who Code!

MISSION: Girls Who Code programs work to inspire, educate, and equip girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities.

To kick off the chapter, we will have an information meeting on Saturday, October 4th from 10 am – 12 pm at the WISE office:

Our first GWC meeting will take place on Saturday, October 18th – same time and place as the information meeting.

BIRCWH associate Melissa Lamar receives travel scholarship

BIRCWH associate Melissa Lamar received a travel scholarship from the Emory Center for AIDS Research to attend their upcoming conference on HIV and Aging: From Mitochondria to the Metropolis. She was also chosen to participate in a pre-conference workshop for new investigators to the field of HIV and Aging given her recently funded grant looking at accelerated brain aging in women with HIV


Tonda Hughes appointed to Associate Dean of Global Health in UIC College of Nursing

Congratulations to Tonda Hughes on her new appointment to Associate Dean of Global Health in the UIC College of Nursing (CON)! Dr. Hughes is currently serving as the Interim Executive Director of the Global Health Leadership Office (GHLO) and is a Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science (HSS). As Interim Executive Director, she has done an exceptional job advancing CON’s international academic mission and has increased the visibility of the CON internationally.


Nuriya Robinson receives two teaching awards

BIRCWH scholar Nuriya Robinson received two teaching awards for 2014: the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) teaching award and the UIC Family Medicine Department Specialty Attending Teacher of the Year award.  She also received an academic career development fellowship: the National Institutes of Health/National Medical Association Academic Medicine Fellow, 2014.
